If it's not challenging you, it's not changing you

The weekend is almost here and it's time for another Friday Reflection šŸ¤”!

I was working out šŸ‹ā€ā™€ļøa few days ago and I heard my coach say, " If it's not challenging, it's not changing you." My first thought was "I'm never one to back away from a challenge". My second thought was "Are we done yet?"šŸ˜…

I realized of course this quote doesn't just apply to working out. It also applies to the workplace. If you aren't challenged, then you aren't changing. If you aren't changing, you aren't growing 🌱.

Does your job challenge you?

If your job doesn't challenge 🤺 you anymore, you are no longer growing. And if you aren't growing, you aren't learning šŸ‘©ā€šŸ«anything new. If you aren't learning anything new, it might be time to consider looking for a new position that challenges you to learn new things.

What about your work environment? Are there things that could be improved? Are you content with how things are? If you aren't challenging the status quo, you are no longer growing. If you are just going with the flow at work because you are afraid of conflict, you are no longer growing.

Before you end your work week, take a moment to look back and think about the challenges 😫 you faced.

Ask yourself:

How did I overcome šŸ’Ŗ this challenge?

Who did I help šŸ¤?

Who helped me šŸŒž?

By regularly taking the time to reflect on what you have achieved, you accomplish 3 things:

1. You give yourself the time you need to pause and reset before continuing with your day or heading out for the weekend.

This is particularly helpful if you are having a bad day 😭 and need to switch gears āš™ from work to family.

2. You make time for yourself --even if it's just 10 mins.

Routinely making time šŸ•™ for yourself is good for your mental health šŸ™‚ and helps you put your best foot forward šŸ’Æ for your organization, family, and friends.

3. You take the time to think about the challenges and how you can reframe them into positive events.

Reframing allows you the opportunity to walk away with a new perspective. It creates a new sense of an awareness of how you can improve your response to challenges in the future. Rather than letting it consume you, you reframe it so you make the best of the situation.

Remember, if it's not challenging, it's not changing šŸ“ˆ you.

this is an eye opener Laurie. where there is challenges, there is the hunger to overcome it which leads to learning how to. Learning equals growth.
